Staffordshire County Council has awarded a new long-term contract for the maintenance of traffic signals and signage across the region.
Following the completion of the previous five-year contract, Swarco UK & Ireland was awarded a new five-year contract with the option of a three-year extension.
Under the new agreement, Swarco will maintain traffic signals across 186 junctions and 384 pedestrian crossings across Staffordshire, as well as 120 Vehicle Activated Signs and 124 dual-flasher signs.
In addition, the company will also be responsible for any highways system upgrades and traffic management requirements, as well as coordination of multiple contractors and raising and managing any necessary permits for all works, including civils, carried out throughout the duration of the contract.
Lighting and intelligent transport systems manager at Staffordshire County Council, Emily Madsen, said: “This partnership with Swarco directly supports our strategic commitment to keeping Staffordshire connected, safe and moving.
“Since first working together in 1999, we have built a strong, trusted relationship that has delivered lasting improvements to our traffic infrastructure.
“Swarco’s reliability, expertise and shared commitment to our goals have helped us modernise our network, minimise disruption and provide real benefits four our residents and businesses across the county.”
Achievements and innovations in traffic management will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
