SkyToll has presented the first functional gate of the new Crolibertas toll system in Croatia.
The gate is equipped with new electronic toll system that enables people to use Croatian highways without having to stop to pay the toll.
The first toll gate was installed on the A3 motorway in the PopovaÄa â Kutina section and was launched in accordance with the legislation on March 1, 2027.
It consists of three segments with a total length of 33 meters and weighs 10 tons. Over the next eight months, SkyToll will build and connect another 211 toll gates of the new Crolibertas system.
In addition to the installation of 212 gates on the highway network, the project also includes information systems, advanced IT equipment, implementation of construction work during full operation and establishment of back-office data processing centres.

In parallel with the installation of gates and technologies, testing will be carried out to ensure the functionality of each individual component part of the system.
After the installation of all gates and related equipment, the system will be tested comprehensively at the level of the entire highway network.
The system will comprise two key technologies: ALPR (Automatic License Plate Recognition), which recognises the license plate numbers of passing vehicles in real time.
ALPR is designed to collect tolls from occasional users of passenger vehicles and toll payment control for all vehicles, while DSRC (radio communication system) collects tolls from the vehicles with an on-board ENC unit.
SkyToll director of strategy and business development, Peter PolakoviÄ, said: “It is a very significant milestone in this large-scale project.
“Despite the fact that we still have several months of gate construction, optimisation and fine-tuning ahead of us, we announce today that we have a fully functional version of the new Crolibertas toll system available.”
