Belper Community Transport has announced that it will begin operations 1 June 2025, with the on-demand lift service catering to disabled and elderly people.
After Derbyshire Community Transport was liquidated October 2024, Belper residents that used the service were left without accessible transportation.
Residents set up the Community Interest Company (CIC) and formed Belper Community Transport.
Belper Community Transport raised £39,000 in donations to launch the new on-demand service and estimates there are about 600 wheelchair users in Belper who would benefit from it.
The Belper Community Transport will begin services 1 June 2025, with a membership scheme pricing individuals £25 per annum or £100 per annum for organisations or Care Homes.
Members will be able to book journeys online or via mobile for £6 per hour with all journeys operating to or from the DE56 area.
The service will be run entirely by volunteers, with 16 of these drivers, and is primarily for those who don’t have their own vehicle or have disabling conditions.
Achievements in accessible transport planning will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
