Västtrafik, the agency responsible for public transport services involving buses, ferries, trains, and the Gothenburg tram network, has announced the launch of its first autonomous bus line in Gothenburg.
The line will run between Liseberg, GĂĄrda, and the Central Station with the new autonomous service including a safety driver.
The bus will be called GĂĄrda autonom, line 169 and will run between Polhemsplatsen and Liseberg Station.
This is a test that will run until the summer of 2027 and during that time Västtrafik, together with the City of Gothenburg and Vy Buss, will test the self-driving bus in reaal-world conditions.
In the long term, Västtrafik hopes that self-driving buses could complement regular public transport and contribute to lower costs, a better range of services and solve parts of the driver shortage.
Västtrafik will now hold a seminar to grant the public access to the bus with the opportunity to ask questions and board the vehicle during a test drive.
Achievements and innovations connected autonomous vehicles will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
