The UK Department for Transport (DfT) has announced the funding allocations for bus operations for the financial year 2025/2026.
In total, DfT funding amounts to £735,876,464, with £670m earmarked to enable Local Transport Authorities (LTA) to deliver their Bus Service Improvement Plans (BSIP) throughout the country.
LTA’s will receive £35m in total from the Local Authority Bus Service Operators Grant, with Local Authorities across the UK receiving a total of £7m to help keep fares down.

DfT also reiterated that this funding was supported by the October 2023 government announcement that there would be new funding of more than £1bn for better buses in every part of the North and Midlands.
The transport body stated that this will make buses more frequent, more reliable and easier to use – continuing and expanding the improvements started by the £1.2bn for BSIPs announced in 2022 and 2023.
Greater Manchester will also receive and addtional £13m in devolved BSOG to protect existing services and support service delivery whilst West Midlands Combined Authority will receive £11m.
Achievements and innovations in transport planning will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
