Two new ultra-rapid EV charging bays have gone live in Blackburn, marking another milestone in Lancashire’s push to build the infrastructure needed for an electric vehicle future.
Charegpoint operator Be.EV invested £223,000 to install two 150kW Kempower ultra-rapid charging bays at the site, which give drivers up to 80% of charge in just a 20-minute stop.
Positioned just ten minutes from the M65—a corridor that sees over 69,000 vehicles pass through daily—the chargers offer up to 80% top-up in 20 minutes.
The installation is expected to deliver notable gains for site owners AAAZ Investments as at high-traffic sites, ultra-rapid chargers have been shown to increase rental yield by around £4,000 annually.
Lancashire County Council projects that more than 6,600 chargepoints will be required to support a forecasted 240,000 EVs on its roads by 2030.
A spokesperson from AAAZ Investments said: “EV charging has become much more of a priority for us as more EVs hit the road, so it’s important to us to get EV charging at our sites before they become the most common vehicle on the road.
“It was important for us to work with an experienced partner who could advise us on getting the right chargers and make everything as simple as possible, which is exactly what Be.EV has done.
“This new site will be a welcome addition for local residents and drivers on longer journeys.”
