The food retailer Lidl Italia, in partnership with Daimler Truck Italia and LC3 Trasporti, has ordered 30 fully electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks.
The first eActros 600 will now deliver to Lidl branches in Trentino-South Tyrol and the Lake Garda region during the summer months.
The truck is equipped with a nitrogen-cooled semitrailer for temperature control, with a high battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt hours – hence the model designation 600 – that enables it to achieve a range of 500 kilometers without intermediate charging.
The eActros 600 has three battery packs, each with 207 kWh and will be able to cover more than 1,000 kilometers per day.
With a standard semitrailer, the eActros 600 has a payload of around 22 tons in the EU. In some cases, national law may allow a higher payload.
Logistics director at Lidl Italia Luca Ros said: “Logistics is a crucial part of our business and making it more sustainable is a must.
“For this reason, we have been embarking on a journey of gradual decarbonisation of transport for years, which is also achieved through the choice of more sustainable means of transport.
“It is therefore an honor to be the first to use the new all-electric tractor unit in long-haul transport. A big thanks to our partners Daimler Truck Italia and LC3, both driven by our same sustainability values.”
Achievements in sustainable transport will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
