The UK Department for Transport (DfT) has released new electric vehicle (EV) charging figures that state the UK now has more than 82,000 EV charging devices publicly available.
In total, the UK has 82,002 and counting, marking a 27% increase on the same point last year and a 7% rise since April 2025.
Of these, 16,677 are high-powered chargers with an output of 50kW or more, accounting for one in five devices.
Destination chargers, typically located at retail or leisure sites, make up 49% of the network with 40,109 devices, while on-street provision accounts for 37% at 30,169 devices.
As of April 2025, London offered the highest level of overall charging provision, with 263 devices per 100,000 people compared to a UK average of 113.
Scotland led on high-powered provision, delivering 34 devices per 100,000 people against a national average of around 23.
While absolute numbers remain higher in urban areas, DfT stated that rural growth is accelerating.
Between January 2024 and January 2025, public charging grew 37% nationwide, including a 35% increase in urban locations and a 45% rise in rural areas.
Achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
