Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has started a procurement process to deliver £1.6bn of infrastructure that will help maintain and grow the light rail network Metrolink.
The new agreement would span up to 12 years and would start in 2027 covering a wider range of additional works including Metrolink stop improvements, new stops, line extensions, vehicle infrastructure, Access for All rail schemes and Travel Hubs.
The contract covers Metrolink’s asset renewals programme, which includes replacing key infrastructure – such as track, overhead lines and the distribution system that provides power to trams.
Chief network officer at TfGM, Danny Vaughan, said: “This is a significant opportunity for suppliers to help shape how we deliver the next generation of Metrolink and rail accessibility infrastructure across Greater Manchester.
“We’re looking for innovative, efficient and collaborative approaches that will support our ambitions for a world-class, integrated Bee Network. We encourage all interested parties to engage with us through this process.”
Achievements and innovations in transport planning will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
