Hitachi Rail has completed the delivery of the Cairo Traffic Control Center (TCC) to Egyptian National Railways.
The TCC system has been implemented to manage the 19 stations that make up the Cairo-Alexandria line.
Along with this infrastructure, level crossings have been modernised, with the aim of enhancing safety for road and rail users; and new technical buildings, including main and secondary towers, have been constructed.

Hitachi’s initial contract was signed in 2013 and has since been extended to more than €100m (c. £86m) of investment.
This included investment into new mechanical and electrical signalling on the main lines which has been replaced with a modern electronic system, including digital interlockings, new signals and motorised drives.
General project manager of Hitachi Rail, Bruno Teixeira, said: “Our team has played a critical part in modernising this vital line, making every day travel safe, seamless and more efficient for the citizens in Egypt.”
Achievements and innovations in rail will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
