Norfolk County Council has secured more than £34m in new government funding to improve local transport infrastructure.
The UK Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed that Norfolk will receive £32.5m in capital funding and an additional £2.1m in resource funding through the Government’s Local Transport Grant (LTG) programme.
The Local Transport Grant consolidates and simplifies previous funding streams.
Allocations are based on national formulas, with weightings for population size and deprivation levels—ensuring counties like Norfolk receive a fair and proportionate share.
The funding is designated to improve transport projects and planning over the next four years.
The dual funding stream will support both the delivery of physical infrastructure and the capacity to plan, develop and manage projects, helping Norfolk address key priorities such as reducing congestion, improving accessibility, enhancing public transport, and promoting sustainable travel.
The capital funding provides the opportunity to deliver improvements such as new and upgraded active travel infrastructure, enhancements to public transport services and improved accessibility for all users.
Norfolk County Council cabinet member for highways, infrastructure and transport, Graham Plant, said; “This funding is a significant boost for Norfolk.
“It enables us to press ahead with vital improvements while also strengthening our in-house capacity to plan and deliver the projects that matter most to local communities that support our Local Transport Plan.
“From greener travel options to safer streets, this investment gives us the tools to build a transport network that’s fit for the future.”
Achievements and innovations in public transport planning will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
